Youth Minister Update
The Church Board met and discussed all of the responses from the Youth Minister Pledge Letter and determined there was high enough interest and adequate financial pledges to open a position for a full time youth minister . The Church Board then gave the Youth Ministry Research Committee (YMRC) the authority to review and interview potential candidates and recommend one to the Church Board. On August 26th, the YMRC met and interviewed a candidate of high interest. References were called and a background check was completed. Then the YMRC recommended to the Church Board that Brandt Johnson be the person to fill the vacant youth ministry position. The Church Board had a special board meeting on August 28th and unanimously approved the recommendation.
Brandt Johnson has accepted the invitation to come on the weekend of September 12-14 to meet the congregation and to fill the youth minister position if accepted by a 2/3 majority vote by the congregation. To give the congregation a chance to meet Brandt, his wife Jennifer and his two children Tatiana (4) and Benaiah (2) there will be a Pancake Breakfast before Church on September 14th at 9:00. There will be a chance for a Q &A as well as fellowship. Brandt will also bring the morning’s message during the worship service. A youth event will be planned for the weekend to give the youth group a chance to meet Brandt.
The congregational meeting for the approval of Brandt Johnson to fill the open position of Youth Minister will be held after the Worship Service on September 14.
All questions or comments are to be asked prior to the congregational meeting and can be directed toward the Church Board or the Church Elders. The Congregational meeting will be brief only consisting of an approval vote for Brandt Johnson to fill the open youth minister position.
Youth Minister Research Committee
The Church Eldership and Board unanimously have agreed that there is a need for a full time youth minister here at Sheldon Church of Christ. There is no doubt that the ministry to the children and youth in our church and community is very important. We must keep in mind that 85% of all Christians made a commitment before they were 18 years old.
A letter was sent out in July to many active attenders and members of Sheldon Church of Christ sharing this need and asking for financial help to accomplish this goal. Included in the letter was a pledge sheet asking people to share what they would commit over and above current giving for a youth minister. If you would like to read the entire letter and view the pledge sheet, it is below
The Youth Ministry Research Committee and church board will review the pledges in August and determine the next step in this process. We invite everyone to lift the church, the leaders, and the possibility of a youth minister up in prayer. The Youth Minister Research Committee consists of: Phil Crick, Phill Poppenhagen, Kevin Baughman, Shelby Stutzman, and Jeremy Allard. Any questions or comments can be directed to them or the elders.
