First Things…

Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”

So He said to them, “When you pray, say:

Our Father in heaven,[a]
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
[b]
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us day by day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins,
For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.”

Luke 11:1-4  (New King James)

These words have been spoken for more centuries time and time again in our efforts to connect with the almighty God as taught by our the Son of God, our Savior, Jesus Christ. The repetition of saying this prayer has over time faded its beautiful simplicity in connecting our hearts with our creator God.

Over the next month, we are going to look deeper into how this prayer is an example for how we are to pray. Read only the day’s devotion and then interact with the ideas presented for the rest of the day. This is one of the ways that we will be able to develop a life of abiding prayer that God has called us to. If we are to Abide in Christ so that we can Acquire what we need, to Advance God’s kingdom in us and in our world, then prayer is a necessity.

My hope is that you will be able to realize the blessing and power that comes through daily prayer.  May October 2014, be a month where we see God advancing in our hearts and our church to His glory.
