Where Can I Serve?

Jesus told us, his disciples, to make disciples of all nations. We believe this happens best by serving God and loving others.  There are many ways that we can do this.  Here are some of the different ministries that we have:

We support a number of different ministries locally, nationally, and around the world.  The Missions Committee meets monthly to go over the different needs of these and many other ministries and distributes the funds that have been set aside from the Sunday offerings.

Meeting every month, the Outreach Committee takes care of our visitors and promoting the different events at the church.  They also plan different outreach events throughout the year such as CIA Day (Christ in Action) Day in June.  In September, they plan Super Sunday where members are encouraged to invite a friend to church and then celebrate with a great pit barbecue chicken dinner under the big tent!

Worship and Music

God-honoring worship is something we strive for. Many church members get involved in our music  ministry. Some play their instruments. Some are vocalists. Others are involved in the choir. Those who help out using their talents and abilities are vital to a wonderful Sunday morning worship service.  Practice is usually (but not always) scheduled for Tuesday evenings.

Ushers, Greeters and Servers

It is wonderful being greeted by a friendly face and helped as you find your way around.  That is why this is such an important ministry.  We want people to feel welcome and at home.  If you have any questions about the church, feel free to ask an usher or greeter.  We also have men who have made themselves available during the service to serve communion and pass the offering plate.

Media & Technology

Using media to spread the gospel is a privilege of Sheldon Church of Christ. In an age of widespread technology, we have a stewardship to use these tools as best as possible for kingdom purposes. We use technology in our sound booth by having a live feed in the nursery, taking care of the sound system, and working through the video presentation on the screen.  We are working at keeping our webpage up to date.

Children’s Education (CE)

In order to give our children the best Bible teaching possible, the Children’s Education committee meets to oversee all the different activities and programs that reach out to our children with the good news of Jesus Christ.  From our Wednesday Xtreme!, Sunday School, youth groups, VBS to the annual Easter Egg Hunt and Trunk or Treat, we desire to point children to Jesus.

Property Maintenance

We all know that when one owns something,  one has to keep it maintained.  The Property Maintenance Committee oversees the maintenance and upkeep of the church building, lot and parsonage.  There is always something that needs attention and we are always looking for people who are willing to help do some simple upkeep  and others who can do more ‘experienced’ jobs.
